Mark: Welcome to today's market update, based on the latest available data from November 14, 2025. I'm Mark, and with me today is Susan.
Susan: Hi Mark! Let's dive right into the numbers. The S&P 500 closed at 6,734.11, dropping 3.38 points. It was a relatively flat day for this index, wouldn't you say?
Mark: Absolutely, Susan. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average saw a bit more of a decline, closing at 47,147.48, down 309.74 points. It's evident there was some selling pressure there.
Susan: On the flip side, the Nasdaq showed some resilience, gaining 30.23 points to close at 22,900.59. It's interesting to see how tech-heavy indices like the Nasdaq can sometimes move in the opposite direction of the broader market.
Mark: It sure is, Susan. Speaking of tech, let's talk about some notable individual stocks. Nvidia had a solid day, opening at $182.86 and closing at $190.17, which is a gain of $7.31. That's a nice upward movement for them.
Susan: Definitely a strong performance for Nvidia. Tesla also had a great day, closing at $404.35, up $18.05 from its open. It seems investors are quite bullish on Tesla right now.
Mark: Then there's Amazon, which had a slightly off day, declining by $0.37 to close at $234.69. And Netflix fell by $3.05, closing at $111.22.
Susan: Microsoft, on the other hand, gained $11.95, closing at $510.18. And Google ended up $5.09, closing at $276.98. Meta also had a positive day, closing at $609.46, up $7.67.
Mark: Now, let's focus on one stock in particular. How about we talk about Microsoft today?
Susan: Great choice, Mark. Microsoft opened the day at $498.23 and closed at $510.18, which is a solid gain of $11.95. That's a significant uptick, reflecting strong investor confidence.
Mark: Indeed, Susan. Microsoft's performance could be driven by positive news or developments in their business segments, such as cloud computing or AI initiatives. They're a major player in these areas.
Susan: Right, Mark. With their diverse product offerings and strong market position, Microsoft's outlook remains generally positive. They have continued to innovate and adapt, which has kept them at the forefront of the tech industry.
Mark: Certainly, Susan. It's also worth noting that Microsoft's consistent performance makes it a key stock to watch in any portfolio.
Susan: Absolutely, Mark. Before we wrap up, here's a little market-related anecdote. Did you know that during the Great Depression, the New York Stock Exchange had a therapy dog named "Smokey" who comforted traders on the floor?
Mark: Really? That's fascinating, Susan. It's amazing how something as simple as a dog could provide comfort in such a stressful environment.
Susan: It goes to show that sometimes, even in the world of finance, a little warmth can make a big difference.
Mark: Well said, Susan. And that's our market update for today. Thanks for joining us, everyone, and we'll see you next time!
Susan: Take care and happy investing!
