Mark: Welcome to today's market update, based on the latest available data from January 12, 2026. I'm Mark.
Susan: And I'm Susan. Let's dive into the numbers from yesterday's close. Starting with the indices, the S&P 500 gained 10.99 points to close at 6,977.27.
Mark: That's right, Susan. The Dow Jones also saw an upward movement, gaining 86.13 points to finish at 49,590.20.
Susan: And not to be left out, the Nasdaq climbed by 62.55 points, ending the day at 23,733.90. It seems like a positive day across the board for the major indices.
Mark: Indeed, it was. Now, let's look at some individual stocks and see who the notable movers were. NVIDIA, for instance, opened at $183.22 and closed at $184.94, gaining $1.72.
Susan: Tesla also had a strong day, opening at $441.23 and closing at $448.96, which is a nice $7.73 gain.
Mark: On the flip side, Amazon saw a slight decline, closing at $246.47 after opening at $246.73, a minor drop of $0.26.
Susan: Netflix had a similar story, with a small decline of $0.28, closing at $89.41. Meanwhile, Google had a good day, gaining $6.23 to close at $332.73.

Mark: That's a great point, Susan. Google's recent gains might reflect investor confidence in its diversified business model and innovative ventures. Despite market volatility, it continues to perform well.
Susan: Absolutely, Mark. Google's strong position in digital advertising and its investments in cloud computing and AI could be driving investor optimism.
Mark: As we wrap up today's update, here's an interesting market anecdote: Did you know that the oldest stock exchange in the world is the Amsterdam Stock Exchange? It was established in 1602 by the Dutch East India Company.
Susan: That's fascinating, Mark. It's amazing to see how far we've come from those early days of trading to today's complex financial markets.
Mark: It sure is, Susan. And that concludes our market update. Thanks for tuning in, everyone. We'll be back with more insights next time.
Susan: Have a great day, and happy trading!
