And I'm Susan. Let's dive into the numbers, shall we? It was a tough day for the major indices. The S&P 500 declined by 100.01 points to close at 6,506.48.
Mark
That's right, Susan. The Dow Jones also saw a significant drop, falling 443.96 points to end at 45,577.47. And over at the tech-heavy Nasdaq, we saw a decline of 443.08 points, closing at 21,647.61.

It seems like a broad market selloff, Mark. Let's take a closer look at some individual stocks. Starting with NVIDIA, which opened at $178.00 and closed down $5.07 at $172.93.
Mark
Yeah, NVIDIA wasn't alone in its decline. Tesla also fell, opening at $379.39 and closing at $367.96, down by $11.43.
Susan
Amazon managed to limit its losses, opening at $207.50 and closing at $205.37, a drop of $2.13. Meanwhile, Microsoft saw a decline too, closing at $381.85, down by $4.41 from its opening of $386.26.
Mark
Netflix, however, bucked the trend with a slight gain. It opened at $91.37 and closed at $91.82, up by $0.45. A small but positive move on a challenging day.
Susan
And Google had a rough session, closing at $298.79, a decline of $5.35 from its opening of $304.14. Meta also faced a notable drop, closing at $593.66, down $9.87 from its opening price.
Mark
Now, let's take a closer look at Tesla. It had a tough day, closing at $367.96, down $11.43 from the morning. What do you think is driving Tesla's recent performance, Susan?
Susan
Well, Mark, Tesla's decline could be attributed to broader market pressures and perhaps ongoing concerns about competition in the electric vehicle space. However, with its innovative leadership and strong brand, Tesla remains a significant player in the market.
Mark
Absolutely, Susan. Despite the short-term fluctuations, Tesla's long-term outlook is often influenced by its production goals and strategic initiatives in technology and energy solutions.
Susan
As we wrap up, here's a funny market anecdote for our listeners. Did you know that in the early days of the stock market, there was a rule that brokers couldn't place trades while wearing hats? It was believed that hats were a sign of disrespect to the market's serious nature.
Mark
That's a good one, Susan! Thankfully for today's traders, the dress code has relaxed a bit. Thanks for joining us for this market update. I'm Mark.
